The students’ work for the Bauhaus theatre showed many influences from Oskar Schlemmer’s theatrical world, but they also set their own distinctive notes. The group around Kurt Schmidt, for example – his stage design The Man at the Switchboard dates from 1924 – was concerned with mechanization and automation as expressions of the technological age.
