bauhaus_werkstatt guests: Workshop Algorithmic Cultural Vandalism
Workshop on the interactive installation Algorithmic Cultural Vandalism with the artists Pietro Lugaro and Alessandro Mac-Nelly.
The artists Pietro Lugaro and Alessandro Mac-Nelly offer two workshops which intensively explore the themes of the installation.
ACV (Algorithmic Cultural Vandalism) is an ongoing research project by the artists Pietro Lugaro and Alessandro Mac-Nelly, which explores the relationship between symbols and artificial intelligence (AI). The installation invites visitors to produce a drawing using a robotic arm. The robot is powered by AI, trained on information in the archive containing numerous symbols, glyphs, talismans and typefaces from various cultures. In this experiment, humans and machines create symbols together. The installation aims to examine where to draw the line between meaningful drawing and mere scribbling. Ambiguities and the risk of misunderstandings are all part of the experience. Interestingly, people always try to create meaning even when the AI refuses to play along. In this way, ACV expresses its critique of symbolic systems.
Pietro Lugaro is a research-based artist whose areas of specialisation include art philosophy, visual culture, diagramatics, and the connection between magic and technology.
Alessandro Mac-Nelly is an artistically oriented researcher, specialised in robotics, machine learning and the application of AI models in creative processes.
