Paper Engineering from the Bauhaus
In this workshop participants discover the creative potential of paper as envisioned in Josef Albers’ preliminary course. The workshop includes historical folding exercises and paper creations along with new designs and ideas that build on Albers’ concepts. In keeping with the method of the preliminary course, participants design their own paper creations using various creative approaches. Our goal is to open participants’ minds and expand their horizons (all the while having fun experimenting with paper!). Like students in the Bauhaus workshops, we too will be working with our hands and using simple tools.
Paper artist and author Eric Gjerde explores the tacit connections between shape, pattern, culture and history. While his work follows the principles of geometry and design — from origami to biomimetic architecture — Gjerde maintains the love of curiosity and learning that initially brought him to paper folding as a child.
Practical tip: All required materials will be provided at the workshop. Workshop language: English
